DESCRIPTION: Responsibilities include: Set up staining kit and cryostat prior to receiving first tissue specimen. Assign a Mohs number for each site to be processed. Receive and organize incoming tissue specimens. Properly perform grossing techniques to ink and embed tissue ensuring complete representation of vital margins and maintain proper orientation. Prepare sections of human tissue for immediate examination using the frozen section technique. Freeze, cut, mount, and stain tissue specimen received from Mohs surgeon. Coverslip slides. Ensure that tissue and slide preparation meet laboratory requirements. Report deviations from or any abnormalities to the Mohs surgeon for further study or examination. Documents daily equipment maintenance, reagent filtering and exchanges, temperature logs, and quality control forms. Evaluate equipment and reagent systems. Maintains manual logbooks and file slides for the dermatology office. Prepare labels to corresponding slides to ensure accuracy. Maintain Laboratory Procedures in compliance with CLIA and state of CA regulations. Clean out cryostat to prevent excess water. Clean up lab equipment. Dispose of reagents as needed.
