DESCRIPTION: One year appointments only. Invites applications from third-year law students or law school graduates interested in a one-year, temporary law clerk position with the Court. Legal Research Assistants are generally assigned as law clerks in the Criminal Division or Civil Division (including the departments of the Presiding Judge, Probate, Family, Law and Motion, Asbestos, general Civil, the Housing Court, Complex Litigation, or the Appellate Division). Incumbents provide legal research, briefing memos, and statements of decision to applicable bench officers. Work is performed in an office environment; occasionally works outside; continuous contact with other staff. DESCRIPTION: Provide legal representation to low-income tenants who face eviction or have other rental housing issues. Services are also provided to low-income landlords whose own housing is threatened due to a problem tenant. Legal services may include counsel and advice, preparation of pleadings, negotiations with property owners, and court representation. HOME services include assistance with eviction defense, Section 8 issues, habitability, and services for qualifying low-income landlords. Duties: Client Services: Conduct comprehensive legal needs assessment, provide information and brief advice. Draft pleadings and other legal documents. Negotiate settlements with landlords and property owners. Provide representation in unlawful detainer proceedings and at Section 8 hearings. Skills and Experience Required: Previous housing law experience, including familiarity with eviction defense, habitability and mobile home issues, and Section 8. Litigation or administrative hearing experience. Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office and database programs. Maintain up-to-date case notes and statistical records on services provided in client database. A firm commitment to accurate and timely data collection and time reporting (on bi-weekly time sheets and in the client database) is required. POSITION: Elder Law Outreach Attorney

DESCRIPTION: Provide consultation, advice and representation to eligible elder adults (age 60+) in Sonoma County. Legal topics addressed will include elder abuse protective orders, civil harassment and domestic violence restraining orders, rental and mobile home park housing issues, consumer finance issues, and simple estate planning. The ELA will work with affiliate program staff including our on-site Elder Law Team, as well as network of community partners such as, Adult Protective Services (APS), the Council on Aging, and the Family Justice Center, to coordinate services to seniors. Services provided include one-on-one assistance with pleadings, legal advice and information, and in-court representation. Qualifications: Litigation or administrative hearing experience. Excellent communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with a wide-range of community stakeholders, flexibility, and teamwork required. Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office, legal forms software, and database programs. Interviewing for a full time California licensed civil litigation attorney to work from approximately January 15, 2020 through approximately June 15, 2020. The ideal candidate will work remotely and have access to high speed internet, reliable phone service, printer, scanner, and copying capabilities. A part time paralegal will provide administrative support to this position. Responsibilities: Manage and be responsible for the civil litigation process from cradle to grave, including drafting demand letters, drafting complaints, managing service of process, law and motions practice, and settlement negotiations as necessary. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be licensed to practice law in California, and have 2-4 years of civil litigation experience. Successful candidates must be able to work with minimal supervision, have exceptional organizational skills and be attentive to detail. Familiarity with Clio law practice software is a plus.
