POSITION: LEGAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT (LAW CLERK)

DESCRIPTION: One year appointments only. Invites applications from third-year law students or law school graduates interested in a one-year, temporary law clerk position with the Court. Legal Research Assistants are generally assigned as law clerks in the Criminal Division or Civil Division (including the departments of the Presiding Judge, Probate, Family, Law and Motion, Asbestos, general Civil, the Housing Court, Complex Litigation, or the Appellate Division). Incumbents provide legal research, briefing memos, and statements of decision to applicable bench officers. Work is performed in an office environment; occasionally works outside; continuous contact with other staff. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be in their third year of law school with the anticipation of graduating from law school prior to June 30, 2019 or otherwise be a law school graduate by that date. Candidates must take the July 2019 California Bar exam or be an active member of the California Bar. Applicants must be skilled in legal writing and research. For all positions, applicants should be able to type, use computer equipment, and should be acquainted with the use of Lexis and Westlaw.

POSITION: Pretrial Paralegal

DESCRIPTION: Manages a large caseload of unfiled and filed Wrongful Death and Personal Injury asbestos cases at the Pretrial level from intake through the case obtaining a trial date. Paralegal Certificate required. Minimum 1 year experience in a similar office environment, Law Firm preferred. Must have strong communication skills, be able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment. Responsibilities: tracking statutes Regular client contact, including discussing fee contract, health updates, and case progression. Responsible for tracking and meeting all deadlines, both in house and according to the General Orders, Case Management Orders, Local Rules and the C.C.P. Responsible for ordering all necessary records and documents needed in the case, including employment, medical, billing, and pension documents. Prepares and follows up on service of defendants, and sends search requests for missing defendants. Prepares, reviews and serves various pleadings in the case. Responsible for ensuring case information in data is current and correct.

POSITION: Immigration Staff Attorney

DESCRIPTION: The Immigration Staff Attorney will represent clients in removal proceedings before the San Francisco Immigration Court. The attorney will be an employee but will principally be based at the offices of our partner agency, Catholic Charities, in Santa Rosa. In addition to office hours in Santa Rosa it is anticipated there will be multiple weekly court appearances in San Francisco. The attorney will represent detained and non-detained clients in removal proceedings. The Immigration attorney will prepare applications, pleadings, motions, briefs, and exhibits of evidence. Qualifications: Licensed to practice Law in the State of California. Fluency in Spanish required. Knowledge of immigration law, as reflected in coursework, internships, and/or post-graduate legal experience. Two or more years of immigration experience preferred.
